Eating disorders, collateral damage from COVID-19

For 6 months now, not a day has gone by that we have not heard of the many damages caused by the infectious disease called covid-19. The number of people infected and deceased following this pandemic is estimated at more than ten thousands already, without counting the even more numerous patients who are still in care. Governments around the world have therefore taken various measures, including containment, in the hopes of limiting the spread of the virus that is the basis of this pandemic. But what we may not be talking about enough are the other risks run by healthy populations aside from the risk of infection. What are these risks and how to limit them too?

Eating disorders and consequences

Considering the extent of the spread of the disease, fear of contracting it is obviously the one that drives most people. Everyone therefore takes care to make arrangements not to be infected. In accordance with the orders of the authorities of each country, the populations no longer leave their homes unless it is really more avoidable (provisions to make, trips to the doctor, trips to work, etc.). However abrupt it may be in limiting the spread of the disease, this sudden shutdown from the rest of the world is not without its other risks. We do not apprehend them enough, but they are no less worrying. This is the case, for example, of adopting bad eating habits.

Why are eating disorders in this covid-19 period?

There are many reasons for eating disorders in crises like this. Indeed, situations like this are not without a heavy dose of anxiety. And to try to silence this anxiety, it sometimes happens that people develop the habit of eating each other to the point of becoming sick. Others, however, are so worried that they can’t even eat. Bulimia and anorexia can be counted among the very real risks of the current pandemic.
The other problem that the pandemic can cause is undernourishment. With confinement and the fear of going outside, some people ration their supplies to the point of no longer eating balanced meals. Others simply cannot afford to eat properly due to lack of resources. It must be said that the stopping or slowing down of work caused by the forced isolation of everyone goes with a reduction in the resources of many households.
And that’s without counting the homeless who can no longer go to the usual places where they were given free food, because these places also had to close because of the disease.

All this is worrying enough that, in addition to the precautions taken to avoid the disease, efforts are also made to achieve a good nutritional balance.

Eat a balanced diet, whatever it costs

Unhealthy eating has always been a source of ills, and it is not with the pandemic that it will happen otherwise.

In addition, doctors and other health professionals who study the disease from every angle have reported that the people most affected by it are those with already weakened immune systems. The question is therefore how to strengthen the immune system.

Eating well to reduce the level of exposure to infection

The immune system can be assimilated into the body’s defense mechanisms by itself. And to fulfill this important function, humans need to eat well in addition to better rest, less stress and physical exertion. By favoring balanced dishes, populations could reduce the risk of being caught by the pandemic.

In addition, there are already enough deaths directly from the disease so that there are no other causes of death that are indirectly linked to them. At the end of this pandemic, the death toll and psychologically unbalanced people could be much heavier due to collateral damage if certain measures are not taken and implemented. Therefore, it is important, for the good of all, to do everything to ensure a balanced diet.

If you cannot cook well or if you cannot do it as often as necessary, you can use caterers. There are some who offer balanced dishes at very good prices. In addition, their meals make you feel like you are eating homemade food.

We really enjoyed the concept of the Gourmand Poêlon. Thanks to your dynamic and friendly team we had an original and different recognition dinner from previous years.

The employees were really impressed to see the preparation of the dishes in the big frying pans. The food was excellent and the service impeccable.

Thank you for making our dinner a great success.

If you are reading this, it means that you are looking for a caterer. Stop looking! You just found it! I chose Le Poelon for a corporate event for 285 people at Astral Media. Of all the events I have organized, it is for the Poelon Gourmand that I received the most comments. It’s unanimous that everyone loves them. This weekend, for 30 years of my daughter, I again called the Pan Gourmand. The quality of the food, presentation and service are outstanding. Employees are a kindness and exceptional professionalism The Pan Gourmand is more than a caterer, it’s an experience. I recommend it for all kinds of events and for all budgets. You won’t be disappointed.
